A Wayra poem

The slice of lemon
sharpened the tip of Friday
gossip sloshed and fizzed amongst
- katana lips cut deep -
left red on the rim of the glass.

Psssst, Darius…..I am trying hosting a new poetry prompt, a word list. The first one is up now and is “live” thru Friday. I’d be stoked if you’d stop by and try your hand at it!

Those first two lines could open any poem–sharp (no pun intended) and the kind of visual that instantly takes an idea home. What I like to call pure poetry, not just words. Every line here pulls its weight, and who can’t relate to that bloody kiss on the glass, whether it’s you who left it or your own glass getting dirty. Really fine work.

Yup, I can picture all of it. Think I might even see a glimpse of my old self in there someplace. Gin and I parted ways, though.

You strike me as the fearless type. Poetry is a far more enriching than gin, tonic-ly speaking.
Thank you, for being you, fireblossom ❤️.

I knew you’d go further…but this is …stunning…in a task already fraught with tripwires you transcended all. Sincerely stunned. I am not going to pick a favourite line but gossip sloshed, the cut deep, the sharpening…masterful…and the title, oh the title!!!!!!!!!
